The Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida, and the Emir of Agaie, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu, have called on the Niger State Government to renovate and provide modern equipment for all public primary and secondary schools in line with international standards. The appeal was made to improve the overall quality of education and benefit the younger generation.
The two Emirs made this appeal during the Zonal Enrollment Drive Campaign organized by the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), held in Lapai, Agaie, and Katcha local government areas.
The traditional rulers expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of public schools in the state and urged Governor Muhammad Umar Bago to uplift the standard of education.
Chairman of NSUBEB, Mallam Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, assured that the state government is already taking steps to employ qualified teachers to improve the quality of education in public schools.
State Coordinator of AGILE, Hajiya Maimuna Ibrahim Tahir, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the education of the girl child, stating that it is crucial for sustainable development in the country.
“Women are the backbone of the nation, and they should be equipped with sound knowledge,” she said. Tahir also appealed to parents to enroll their daughters in school, stressing the importance of educating girls before marriage.
The event featured presentations, a question-and-answer session, and goodwill messages from various speakers.
