On October 23, 2024, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) hosted a monitoring and evaluation visit to maize farms under the Accelerating Genetic Gains in Maize (AGG) project, focusing on stress-tolerant maize varieties, breeder seed production, and other promising advancements.
The event was overseen by the Executive Director of IAR, Prof. Ado Yusuf, who was represented by Assistant Director of Research, Prof. L.J. Bamaiyi. Leading the tour was Prof. M. Oyekunle, the Project Principal Investigator (PI), accompanied by his dedicated team.
Notable attendees included Dr. Laban Konate and Dr. Ubamadon Coulibaly, two esteemed scientists from Mali, who were there to observe the AGG project’s progress. The tour was also attended by renowned maize breeder and former IAR Executive Director, Prof. S.G. Ado, and Prof. I.S. Usman, Biotechnology Programme Leader.
The visit underscored IAR’s dedication to advancing agricultural innovation and enhancing maize productivity in Nigeria and the region.
