The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has launched a tree-planting campaign in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.
Speaking at the event, the Zamfara State Coordinator for AGILE, Hajiya Sa'adatu Abdu Gusau—represented by Mallam Nasiru Mai Nassarar—highlighted the importance of establishing tree plantations, especially in girls' schools, to help students understand the value of trees both at school and at home.
She explained that the tree-planting campaign is one of AGILE's 12 core programs introduced in schools to benefit girls, particularly those currently enrolled. Participating schools include Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS) Samaru, Government Girls Arabic Day Secondary School (GGADSS) Gusau, and Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS) Tudun Wada.
In her remarks, Hajiya Kulu Ibrahim Na'ala, Chairperson of the Secondary School Management Board, emphasized that tree planting is a highly rewarding act. She noted its numerous advantages, especially in the school environment, where trees can provide shade and improve air quality.
Professor Nasiru Garba Anka, Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, commended the AGILE program, calling it a valuable addition to the Universal Basic Education (UBE) mission, which includes promoting tree planting in schools across the state.
Professor Anka urged students to take this initiative beyond their schools and plant trees at home, stressing the importance of trees for shelter and environmental protection.
