The Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Urban and Regional Planning (ZUREP), Abdullahi Bala, along with Director Aliyu Buba Maigoro and three others, has been arraigned before Magistrate Court II in Gusau. The case, presided over by Senior Magistrate Aminu Sani, involves charges of trespass, theft, and criminal intimidation.
Presenting the case, the plaintiff's counsel, Barrister Surajo Garba Gusau, alleged that the accused, in collaboration with personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), had burgled the shop of his client, Yusha'u YS Maishadda. The stolen items reportedly included cash totaling N10 million and brocade and wrapper bundles valued at N17 million.
Barrister Surajo further asserted that the accused acted illegally to serve the interests of a neighbouring shop owner, who sought to install a staircase in front of Maishadda's shop to access an upstairs shop.
Responding to the allegations, Abdullahi Bala, the first accused, stated that ZUREP acted within its legal authority. He claimed that all items taken from the shop were secured by ZUREP, with representatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police present to ensure proper record-keeping.
Bala explained that the case had initially been reported to the Central Police Station, where the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) advised both parties to maintain the status quo while ZUREP worked toward an amicable resolution.
In his ruling, Senior Magistrate Aminu Sani adjourned the case to November 6. Before that date, he plans to visit the shop personally to assess the alleged burglary site and examine the state government’s roadwork project near the shop location.
