Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the establishment of the Niger State Price Control and Monitoring Board. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, made the announcement during the inauguration of the eight-member board.
Alhaji Usman highlighted that the board’s primary role is to control and stabilize the prices of essential commodities across the state, reduce hoarding, and ensure quick responses to issues that may arise from enforcement and penalties for violations. Other responsibilities include monitoring commodity prices, evaluating price trends, and collaborating with key stakeholders such as local government officials, traditional institutions, market associations, and community leaders.
In his remarks, the Board Chairman, retired Permanent Secretary Alhaji Hussaini Ahmed, assured the state government of the board's commitment to improving consumer protection and economic stability.
The board members include representatives from various state ministries and the police, with Usman Liman, a retired statistician-general, serving as secretary.
