The Niger State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Muhammad Sarkin Daji, has received four executive correspondences from Governor Mohammed Umar Bago at today’s plenary session. These correspondences include the proposed 2024 Supplementary Budget, a Revised 2024 Budget, the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for 2025-2027, and a nomination for the office of Auditor-General.

The first correspondence was the submission of the proposed 2024 Supplementary Budget, which Governor Bago explained became necessary due to an additional inflow of ₦213,737,470,338. The budget also accounts for the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage and the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal on the state’s finances. The proposed supplementary budget breakdown is as follows:

Recurrent Expenditure: ₦36,859,819,029.12

Capital Expenditure: ₦176,877,651,108.88

Total Budget: ₦213,737,470,338.00

In a press release issued by Farouk Umar Isah, head of media and public relations for the Niger State House of Assembly, it was stated that the proposed supplementary budget has been forwarded to the House for deliberation and approval.

The second correspondence was the submission of the 2024 Revised Budget. According to Governor Bago, a review of the 2024 Approved Budget's performance in the last two quarters revealed the need for revisions to better align with the current economic conditions. He pointed out that the removal of fuel subsidies, rising inflation, and the devaluation of the naira have necessitated budget adjustments. Despite these revisions, the total budget size remains unchanged, with the original allocations being reordered. The 2024 Approved Budget amounts to ₦613,994,801,697, comprising ₦149,332,969,152 for Recurrent Expenditure and ₦464,661,832,547 for Capital Expenditure.

The third correspondence was the presentation of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for 2025-2027, in line with Section 13(i)(b) of the State Fiscal Responsibility Law (FRL) 2010. This document outlines the state's financial strategy and spending plans for the next three years and has been submitted to the House for consideration and approval.

Finally, the fourth correspondence from Governor Bago included the nomination of Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar for the position of Auditor-General of Niger State. The House will conduct a screening and confirmation process to assess his eligibility for the role.

These submissions reflect the state government's ongoing efforts to align its fiscal policies with the changing economic landscape and ensure the continued delivery of social services and development projects.
