The Niger State Government has presented a draft 2025 budget of N1.20 trillion for approval at the Executive Council meeting held on November 26, 2024.
Presenting the budget, the Commissioner for Planning, Hon. Mustapha Ndajiwo, explained that the proposed budget comprises N188.42 billion (15.68%) for recurrent expenditure and N1.01 trillion (84.34%) for capital expenditure. Compared to the 2024 approved budget, the new estimate represents a 32.94% increase.
Hon. Ndajiwo further noted that despite the 2024 budget being supplemented with an additional N191.98 billion, the 2025 draft budget still reflects an increase of 1.18% in recurrent expenditure and 32.98% in capital expenditure.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago stated that the size of the proposed budget was driven by the need to address infrastructure deficits, key development priorities, and the impact of inflation on the state's economy.
The council approved the draft budget and directed Hon. Ndajiwo to prepare it for submission to the Niger State House of Assembly for further deliberation and approval.
