The Niger State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to commence the payment of the new N80,000 minimum wage to workers across the board by the end of November 2024.
Speaking in a telephone interview with journalists in Minna on Saturday, November 16, 2024, the NLC Chairman in Niger State, Comrade Abdulkareem Idris Lafene, emphasized that the implementation timeline is sacrosanct and that labour is working tirelessly to ensure the promise made by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago is fulfilled.
Comrade Lafene praised the efforts of the state government in successfully reaching a minimum wage agreement with the NLC, describing it as a significant milestone in the promotion of workers' welfare. He further disclosed that the government has committed to an additional 10% consequential adjustment to the new wage, which will take effect by January 2025.
He assured workers that all modalities for the smooth implementation of the new minimum wage have been finalized, and the new salary table will be made public shortly.
“I want to use this opportunity to commend Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his dedication to the welfare of civil servants and citizens. Labour will continue to support the state government in its developmental efforts to transform Niger State to the next level,” Lafene stated.
The NLC chairman also urged workers to remain committed to their duties and contribute to the realization of Governor Bago’s vision for a better Niger State.
The implementation of the N80,000 minimum wage reflects the government’s commitment to improving the livelihood of its workforce and ensuring socio-economic progress in the state.
