The Niger State delegation at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku has actively engaged global communities through a special event dubbed “Niger Day.”

Led by the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Usman Abubakar, the delegation highlighted the state’s commitment to climate action and sustainability under the Green Economy initiative of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago. The event, held at the Nigeria Pavilion in the Baku Olympic Stadium, brought together leaders from both the public and private sectors to discuss issues including energy transition, sustainability targets, and Niger State’s contributions to climate resilience.

During the event, the delegation showcased the state’s progress since COP28 in Dubai, including the establishment of the Niger State Agency for Green Initiative and collaborations with national and international consulting firms to strengthen the state’s technical and managerial capacity. These efforts align with the implementation of Niger State’s Green Economy Blueprint.

The platform also provided an opportunity for networking and fostering partnerships aimed at attracting investments, particularly in the carbon market. The state’s focus is to achieve its goal of environmental sustainability and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and net-zero emissions targets.

Notably, discussions were initiated with the Climate Action Center of Excellence (CACE) to explore mutually beneficial collaborations. The Niger State delegation remains committed to deepening partnerships and showcasing its green potential to the global audience at COP29.
