The National Field Day, held on November 16, 2024, in Zaria, was organized by East-West Seed Nigeria in collaboration with Samaru College of Agriculture under the Division of Agricultural Colleges (DAC), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. 

The event attracted widespread commendation from stakeholders and witnessed the attendance of prominent individuals from various sectors.

Farmers’ associations from multiple states, traditional rulers, and government representatives from Northern Nigeria praised the initiative for its focus on improving agricultural practices and supporting farmers.

Among the keynote speakers was the representative of the Emir of Zazzau, Galadiman Noman Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, who emphasized the need for East-West Seed Limited to expand its operations to rural areas, ensuring farmers in remote villages benefit from the company’s innovations. He expressed his appreciation for the company's efforts after touring the nursery farms, where he observed firsthand the advancements in seed development.

 Dr. Ahmed Gumi lauded the company for its contributions to advancing vegetable farming technologies and making them accessible to farmers. He urged the Nigerian government to adopt these initiatives across all states to promote national development and ensure the availability of improved seed varieties.

Representatives from DAC Samaru, including Professor Bashir Babaji, the director division of agricultural colleges and  Dr. Hanwa. The former  presented research findings highlighting the success of their collaboration with East-West Seed Nigeria. They discussed their achievements in developing improved vegetable seed varieties aimed at benefiting farmers nationwide.

National President of National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), Alhaji Aliyu Mai-Tasamu, also spoke at the event. He commended East-West Seed Nigeria’s efforts and pledged to share the knowledge gained with farmers across the country.

In an interview with Dr Hadiza Yaro, Country Manager of East-West Seed Nigeria, she explained that the primary goal of the event was to interact with farmers, introduce them to modern vegetable farming techniques, and showcase new seed varieties. She expressed satisfaction with the turnout and pledged the company’s continued commitment to providing improved seeds and innovative farming solutions to farmers.

The event featured the display of a wide range of seed varieties, including watermelon, tomatoes, pepper, garden egg, sweet corn,cucumber, okra,  carrots, marigold, bitter gourd, and more.

The National Field Day was successfully organized and concluded peacefully, leaving participants hopeful for a brighter future in Nigerian agriculture.
