The Voice of Kano State Indigenes Association (VOKAS), FCT Chapter, has expressed profound gratitude to Allah for the recent release of Hon. Faruq Lawal, who has completed a challenging five-year prison sentence. Speaking on behalf of VOKAS, Chairman Alhaji Shafi’u Auwal Sa’id thanked the Almighty for this blessing, emphasizing that Lawal’s endurance through these trials reflects both resilience and divine mercy.
Hon. Faruq Lawal is known across Kano State and Nigeria as a compassionate leader devoted to assisting orphans and supporting the less privileged. Throughout his career, he has embodied service and commitment, advocating for his constituents and leading charitable efforts to uplift marginalized communities.
While in the National Assembly, Lawal made significant contributions by co-establishing the Integrity Committee, a body focused on promoting ethical governance, accountability, and justice. His commitment to safeguarding public welfare was also evident in his efforts to prevent the removal of fuel subsidies, foreseeing the potential hardship for Nigeria’s most vulnerable. His absence in leadership, amid ongoing economic challenges, has left a noticeable void, with the removal of the subsidy now contributing to increased poverty and rising living costs.
VOKAS Chairman Alhaji Shafi’u highlighted that Lawal’s imprisonment was a test of his integrity, a challenge that parallels the struggles of other legislators who have bravely stood for justice. The association noted the similar paths of lawmakers like Hon. Gudaji Kazaure, Senator Ali Ndume, and Kawu Sumaila, who have also faced opposition for championing the rights of their constituents.
VOKAS has now called on Hon. Faruq Lawal to rejoin the political arena, praising his past achievements and dedication to Kano State and Nigeria. The association pledges its unwavering support for his continued leadership, hoping he will once again represent the people’s voice, advocating for justice, accountability, and national development.
