Security forces have broken two major kidnapping hubs along the Kaduna-Kano border after a dawn raid in Makarfi Local Government Area, forcing suspected bandits out of enclaves they had used for months to hold abducted victims.
The joint operation, carried out at about 8:00am, was led by operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command with support from the Kaduna State Vigilance Service. It targeted suspected hideouts around Durum and Danguzuri communities, areas that sit on the porous boundary between Kaduna and Kano states.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the raid was triggered by credible intelligence from residents who have endured repeated attacks and abductions in recent months.
Camps demolished
Security teams identified and pulled down two structures during the sweep. The buildings, located at Rugar Mijin Goggo and Unguwar Maryamu in Danguzuri, were described by police as holding camps where kidnapped persons were kept before ransom negotiations.
No casualty figure was released, but officials said the demolition was aimed at denying criminal groups safe havens and disrupting their logistics along the border corridor.
“The action is part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement across the state and to restore safety for residents and their property,” Hassan said.
Calm returns, patrols continue
Hassan added that joint security patrols remain active in the area and that “normalcy has been restored. The general area remains calm.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended both the vigilance group and community members for volunteering information that made the operation possible.
He described their cooperation as critical to sustaining pressure on criminal networks.
“Community partnership remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against insecurity,” CP Muhammad said. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining an offensive against banditry and other forms of criminality in Kaduna State.
The Commissioner also urged residents to continue sharing timely and credible information with security agencies.
Why Makarfi matters
Security analysts note that border communities like Danguzuri and Durum have become transit points for armed groups moving between Kaduna and Kano.
The dismantling of the two camps is expected to disrupt a key supply route used for moving abducted persons and for launching attacks on nearby villages.
Police said similar clearance operations will continue in Makarfi and other identified flashpoints in the coming days as part of a broader strategy to reclaim rural areas and restore public confidence.
Residents who spoke after the raid said they welcomed the presence of joint patrols, noting that markets and farms in the area had begun to reopen following days of tension.
