As part of his "Feed the Nation" agenda through mechanized agriculture, Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has launched the Niger Foods corn harvest.

Governor Bago, who visited a Niger Foods corn farm near Bida, officially flagged off the harvest using a combine harvester. He expressed delight at the progress, highlighting that over 100,000 hectares of corn fields belonging to Niger Foods span the state, with 100 combine harvesters deployed across the farms.

He noted that the use of combine harvesters is expected to reduce post-harvest losses by 80-90%, with the state anticipating around one million metric tonnes of corn this year. In addition to corn, the state also produces rice, soybeans, sesame, guinea corn, and millet.

The Governor called on the State Task Force for Price Control to implement measures to curb the activities of aggregators who hoard food items, a practice that often leads to food price inflation.

During his visit, Governor Bago also stopped by the Emi Guye community near the farm, where he interacted with residents. He directed that essential amenities, including water and solar energy, be provided to the community and surrounding areas.

The Village Head of Emi Guye, Alhaji Usman Mohammed, speaking on behalf of the community, thanked the Governor and commended him for his development efforts in the state.
