The Zamfara State Ministry of Health has received widespread commendation from the World Health Organization (WHO), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders for launching the Zamfara State Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program, which will be managed by the Department of Public Health Services.
The accolades were given during the program's inception meeting, held at Karma Hotel Conference Hall in Gusau. At the event, the newly established program’s structure was inaugurated, and engagement strategies with stakeholders were outlined.
Dr. Aisha MZ Anka, the Commissioner of Health, announced the upcoming launch of a mental health case management clinic, dedicated to strengthening mental health and psychosocial support services across Zamfara State.
Pharm Sani Bello, Executive Secretary of the Drug Management Agency, expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for his steadfast support of the Ministry's initiatives. Bello highlighted recent accomplishments, including the construction, renovation, and equipping of primary health care centers and the upgrade of the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital to a teaching hospital.
Director of Public Health, Dr. Yusuf Abubakar Haske, thanked esteemed partners such as WHO, UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Red Cross, eHealth Africa, and various federal and state agencies for their ongoing support. He pledged to prioritize the successful implementation of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program, ensuring it meets the needs of Zamfara’s communities.
