A non-governmental organization, Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI) has organised a two-day training for Community-Based and Women-led Organizations on designing, delivering, advocating, and influencing gender transformative and affirmative approaches to health, especially on HIV, TB and Malaria in Bauchi State.
Forty different organizations were in attendance and trained for effective advocacy, design, and efficient approaches to health.
Speaking during the training, the Program Manager of BERI, Miss Deborah Ajibola outlined some gender barriers to health including spousal consent, poverty, low level of education, cultural barriers and distance amongst other factors.
Ajibola explained that BERI's principles align with transformative approaches geared towards rigid gender norms and imbalances.
She urged the participants to step down the knowledge for improved health outcomes in the Society.
Participants at the training were also exposed to Participatory Learning Action (PLA) which can be used to identify causes and barriers related to accessing care in HIV, TB and Malaria.
The training was highly interactive with group work for the participants and it was held in Jos the Plateau state Capital.
