The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced that the Federal Government plans to construct a bridge across the River Niger to connect Niger and Kebbi States through Zamare and Rofia communities.

Governor Bago revealed this during a project monitoring tour in Agwara Local Government Area, as part of his inspection across the Niger North Senatorial District.

He stated that the proposed bridge would facilitate the movement of people and goods, thereby boosting socio-economic activities in the region. Meanwhile, ferries will be provided for the riverine communities as an interim measure. The governor also emphasized the importance of safety, urging residents to use life jackets and avoid overloading ferries.

Governor Bago further disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the development of Agwara, Borgu, Babanna, and other communities. As part of this initiative, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is planned to pass through these areas.

He added that discussions are ongoing between the Federal Government, Niger State, and other states bordering the Republic of Benin regarding the establishment of a free trade zone. This zone will enable goods to be transported by rail along the Lagos-Babanna-Cotonou corridor.

While inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of the 93-kilometer Rofia-Lumma-Borgu Federal road, a project spearheaded by the state government, Governor Bago noted that the initiative would significantly improve the experiences of road users.

Additionally, the governor announced plans to reconstruct the 55-kilometer Lumma-Babanna road to further enhance socio-economic activities in the area.

Governor Bago also directed stakeholders in Agwara to finalize the location for a 5-kilometer township road, which will feature 100 solar-powered streetlights. He further assured that a borehole would be drilled in each of the 10 wards within the Agwara Local Government Area to improve access to clean water.
