Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has commissioned the newly renovated palace of the Emir of Argungu.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, saw the governor commend the emir for fulfilling his promise of justifying the support provided for the renovation effort.
Governor Idris expressed his satisfaction with the project, describing the transformation as remarkable. “I am truly overwhelmed by what I have seen. The palace, known as Gidan Muhammad Kanta, built in 1934, has now been given a significant facelift,” he remarked.
He also assured the emir of continued support to complete other sections of the palace, emphasizing the government’s commitment to preserving historical and cultural landmarks.
In his response, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Ismail Muhammadu Mera, expressed gratitude to the governor for his unwavering support for traditional institutions across Kebbi State.
“Although Your Excellency is here on a condolence visit, I would like to take this opportunity to request that you commission this renovation,” the emir said.
“We remain deeply appreciative of your kind gesture. You have extended support to all emirs across the state to upgrade their palaces to modern standards, and I have completed mine,” he added.
Following the commissioning, Governor Idris visited the family of the late Supreme Court Justice, Justice Usman Muhammad Argungu, who passed away after a brief illness in his hometown of Argungu.
The governor described the late justice as a humble and selfless individual who dedicated his career to assisting the less privileged.
Justice Usman Muhammad Argungu’s death is a significant loss to the state and the nation, Governor Idris said, extending his condolences to the bereaved family.
