Zazzau Emirate Council has been sued before the Kaduna State High Court by Princess Maryam-Talla Jafaru the daughter of former Emir of Zazzau Mallam Ja’afaru Dan-Isyaku over a land in Kaduna.

Hajiya Maryam-Talla Jafaru (the plaintiff) instituted the case on behalf of the heirs/beneficiaries of the estate of Late Emir of Zazzau Mallam Ja’afaru Dan-Isyaku in a suit number KDH/KAD/60/2025.

Kaduna State Government was also sued as second defendant while Kaduna North Local Government and Kaduna Geographical Information System (KADGIS) were sued as third and fourth defendants respectively.

A copy of the originating summons obtained by newsmen indicated that the princess approached the court through her counsel Messr Nurul-Ain Law Chambers seeking for seven orders of declarations.

The Plaintiff also prays for N10m as general and exemplary damages against Zazzau Emirate Council (the first defendant) over alleged trespass and demolishing the structure standing on the property.

However, the plaintiff through a court process said that the late Emir of Zazzau Ja’afaru Dan Isyaku before his death on Aug. 27, 1959 own properties in his personal name.

She added that among such properties is a property lying and situated at Plot JJ 1 & 2 Abubakar Kigo Road, Kaduna stressing that the late emir was in active possession of the property in his lifetime.

The princess said the late emir also obtained a certificate of occupancy from the then native authority now Kaduna North Local Government.

The property has continued to be in the occupation and possession of the plaintiff ever since the death of their late father without any disturbance or challenge from anybody.

She added that sometimes in 2002, based on the collective agreement of heirs of the late emir of Zazzau Ja’afaru, Sharia Court II, Magajin Gari, Kaduna was approached for the distribution of the estate to the entitled heirs.

The plaintiff said after the distribution, the property at JJ 1&2 Abubakar Kigo Road Kaduna was in her favor and the court issued her with a writ of possession.

"sometimes in 2023 and based on the collective decision of the heirs of late emir Ja’afaru, the property was sold to Malam Salihu Mustapha.

"To my greatest surprise, I was informed that the first defendant trespassed on the land and demolished structures on the grounds that third and fourth defendants allocated the property to it,’’ the plaintiff said.

However, the case was filed on Jan. 15 and  it was slated for hearing on Feb. 24.
