The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has reported an explosive incident that occurred early morning of January 26, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m. in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area.

The explosion was attributed to a Nakiya explosive stored in a rented apartment by one Yushehu, a local artisan miner. The apartment, located behind the central mosque in Sabon Pegi, was rented to accommodate Yushehu’s workers, while he resides in New Bussa.

As of the time of this report, three lives have been lost: a boy, a man, and a woman. Several others sustained injuries, and the explosion caused significant destruction, affecting over 40 houses and buildings, as well as parked vehicles.

NSEMA desk officers from Mashegu and Borgu Local Government Areas coordinated rescue operations at the scene.

They conducted a comprehensive on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the full extent of the damage and provide necessary interventions.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
