The former lawmaker, who represented Bauchi South Senatorial District, died at his residence in Abuja while preparing to travel to Bauchi on Saturday for an official engagement.
Governor Bala Mohammed also sympathised with the people of Bauchi South Senatorial District and the entire state over this great loss.
The Governor, who had recently appointed the late Gumau as Chairman of the Governing Board of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, expressed deep sorrow over his passing at the age of 57.
Describing the late Senator as a dedicated public servant and distinguished legislator, Governor Bala stated that Gumau served Bauchi South and Nigeria with unwavering commitment, integrity, and a deep passion for the development of his people.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, Bala said that the late Lawan Yahaya Gumau was a man of humility, honesty, and remarkable leadership.
Bala said, “His tenure in the National Assembly was marked by strong advocacy for good governance, policies that uplifted his constituents, and relentless efforts toward the progress of Bauchi State.
“Senator Lawan Yahaya Gumau’s contributions to the development of Bauchi State will forever be remembered. His impact on the lives of his people, his dedication to service, and his selflessness will continue to inspire generations to come,” Governor added.
