The village head of Sabon Garin Narabi, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi, has commended Ibrahim Ali Usman, a retired naval officer, for his dedication to humanitarian efforts, particularly in supporting the people of Bauchi South Senatorial District.

Speaking at a reception organised in Usman’s honor yesterday, the village head described him as a compassionate leader who extended generosity to the community even during his years of service in the Navy.

The reception was a grand homecoming event to celebrate Usman’s 35 years of meritorious service in defending Nigeria’s territorial waters. The gathering brought together his relatives, community members, and well-wishers, all eager to honor his contributions.

At the event, Ali Usman, founder of the Ibrahim Ali Usman Foundation, pledged to establish a maternity hospital, a police station, and a vocational training center aimed at empowering women and youth in Narabi village.

village head of Narabi said: "The Ibrahim Ali Usman Foundation has, for over a decade, provided humanitarian assistance to various segments of the Bauchi South community in areas such as economic empowerment, education, agriculture, social welfare, and cultural development."

He highlighted Usman’s role in facilitating employment opportunities for the people of Bauchi State, particularly in Toro Local Government Area, where he hails from. He also praised Usman’s sponsorship of students at both secondary and tertiary levels, emphasizing that such contributions set an example for wealthy individuals in society.

Alhaji Abdullahi further noted that Ibrahim Ali Usman had been a true ambassador for his community, having helped secure jobs for hundreds of indigenes, especially within the Navy and other security agencies across the country.

Speaking to journalists after the event, Hon. Ibrahim Ali Usman expressed deep gratitude for the warm welcome, describing the occasion as an emotional and fulfilling reunion with his people.

“It is a joyous moment to return home after so many years of service. Being with my people, sharing meals, solving problems together, and simply living among them again fills me with happiness,” he said.

Reflecting on his return, Usman emphasised the need for urgent development in Narabi, citing the lack of essential infrastructure such as healthcare facilities, schools, and security measures.

“Despite the government's efforts, Narabi still lacks a proper primary healthcare center. As a community, we are struggling to provide one, which is why I feel compelled to step in and give back,” he stated.

On the issue of security, Usman stressed the need for better policing and community surveillance to protect residents.

“Security is primarily the government's responsibility, but as a specialist in security and intelligence, I cannot stand by while criminal elements threaten our community. We must take proactive steps to safeguard our people,” he declared.

He assured the community of his continued support in collaborating with government authorities to enhance security and awareness.

“Bauchi is the gateway to the Northeast, and we must work together to protect our region. As the saying goes, ‘when you see something, say something.’ Raising awareness and taking preventive measures will be crucial in securing our future,” Usman concluded.

  1. Ibrahim Ali Usman is not a retired Naval Officer, but a retired Staff Sergent from the Military.
