Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has officially launched the distribution of shelter kits and cash support to 1,896 households severely affected by the 2024 floods across five local government areas.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Imburu, Numan Local Government Area, Governor Fintiri announced that each household would receive ₦250,000 to rebuild homes damaged by last year’s floods.
He explained that Numan was chosen as the distribution center for the five worst-hit local governments — Numan, Madagali, Michika, Demsa, and Lamurde.
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending the old practice of summoning disaster victims to the Government House for token relief items. Instead, under the current approach, flood victims will serve as their own contractors, directly handling the reconstruction of their homes to ensure faster and more effective resettlement.
He urged beneficiaries to begin rebuilding immediately and, if necessary, relocate to safer areas to avoid future flooding as the rainy season draws closer.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Humanitarian Services, Alhaji Bello Hamman-Diram, said the beneficiaries were identified through a biometric verification process conducted in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Numan Local Government, Mr. Innocent Koto, thanked Governor Fintiri for selecting Numan to host the flag-off and pledged the people’s continued support and loyalty to his administration.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the governor for coming to their aid, promising to use the assistance for its intended purpose.
