Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the day of Eid-Fitr.
The Sultan, who is the President General of Nigeria’s Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, on Saturday said the decision followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country which confirmed the non-sighting of the new moon.
“Today 29th of March 2025, equivalent to 1446AH, brings us to the end of 2025 Ramadan. This is after recieving reports from various Muslim leaders and organisations such as Shehu of Borno, Emir of Dutse, Emir of Argungu, Emir of Mabu, Emir of Daura, Emir of Zauzzau and also the leadership of the JIBWIS, Jos of the confirmation of the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1446.
“Therefore, tomorrow, 30th March 2025, makes it first Shawwal 1446 and also Eid-el-Fitr day.”
Earlier, Daily Struggle reports that Saudi Arabia said the crescent of Shawwal had been sighted.
It also added that Eid al-Fitr, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month, will now be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
