The Aliko Dangote Foundation has distributed 25,000 bags of 10kg rice to residents across 20 local government areas of Bauchi State, as well as to critical stakeholders and both privileged and less-privileged members of society.

This initiative is part of the foundation’s efforts to support Nigerians during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to Mr. Ahmed Hashim, Group General Manager of Dangote Industries Limited, this marks the second edition of the palliative initiative, which began last year. He also highlighted the foundation’s broader interventions, including food relief, medical supplies, the construction of university hostels, and contributions to COVID-19 response efforts.

The Bauchi State Government received the consignment on behalf of the foundation. Hajara Yakubu Wanka, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing that the distribution also considers the Christian community’s observance of the Lenten fasting period.

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Bauchi State, Mahmood Baba Ma’aji, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for ensuring that local government councils benefited from the initiative. He recalled that the Governor had flagged off a similar food distribution program just weeks earlier to further support communities.

Aljazirah Nigeria reports that each of the 20 local government areas will receive 500 bags of rice, while 10,000 bags will be allocated to mosques and churches to cater to the needs of worshippers during this sacred period.
