The defection of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria, particularly in the northern region, where his move has been met with jubilation. However, not all share in the excitement, as some critics argue that El-Rufai’s actions lack integrity and are politically motivated.
In a statement released by Alhaji Sani Zangina, Chairman of Zangina Global Services, he condemned El-Rufai’s defection, questioning his loyalty and political credibility.
“If El-Rufai will shamelessly and unremorsefully quit a political party that gave him all he wanted to be the twice governor of Kaduna State and at the same time the most arrogant governor in the entire north, I see no reason whatsoever to support him,” Zangina stated.
He argued that El-Rufai’s move was driven by personal interests, particularly after being denied a ministerial appointment.
Zangina further called for accountability regarding El-Rufai’s time in office. “In my own view, El-Rufai should be arrested and prosecuted if found wanting of any kind of wrongful involvement in mismanaging the resources of Kaduna’s souls,” he added.
He also used the opportunity to advise Nigerians on the importance of evaluating political candidates based on merit rather than party affiliations. “We should know and understand that political party has nothing to do with the physical and character of any contestant,” he emphasised.
Zangina concluded by urging Nigerians to prioritize credibility over tribal, religious, or political differences as a means to correct the nation’s errors.
“Long life Nigeria!” he declared.
