Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in addressing hardship in society.
The governor made this statement during the distribution of rice donated by the Dangote Foundation as part of the National Food Intervention Program for vulnerable people in the state. The event was held in Minna.
Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Governor Bago noted that poverty and hunger are multidimensional challenges deeply affecting society. He lamented how these issues have devastated many families, fueling criminal tendencies, and stressed the urgency of tackling them.
Highlighting the state government’s efforts to alleviate suffering, he pointed to initiatives such as subsidized grains for Ramadan and other intervention programs aimed at ensuring food security and reducing poverty. He expressed appreciation to the Dangote Foundation for its generous support and called on well-to-do individuals and organizations to contribute to the collective effort of eradicating hunger and poverty.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Ahmed Hashim, Group General Manager of Dangote Industries Ltd, Abuja Office, explained that the Foundation recently launched its National Food Intervention Program in Kano State. He noted that the initiative aims to distribute one million 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable populations across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
He disclosed that Niger State received approximately 30,000 bags of rice and that the Foundation is collaborating with stakeholders in each state to ensure fair and efficient distribution to the intended beneficiaries.
