The Senate has officially approved the state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State, following a closed-door session that lasted for nearly two hours on Thursday.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the resolution during plenary, confirming the upper chamber’s endorsement of the measure.
On Tuesday, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to a prolonged political crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly.
The President, in a nationwide broadcast, expressed deep concern over the escalating situation and the threat it posed to peace and governance in the state.
In response to the crisis, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, with the official swearing-in ceremony taking place on Wednesday.
