The Islamic movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky has called on the general public to participate in the annual International Quds Day Procession, scheduled for Friday, March 28, 2025, in Abuja and other cities across Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Sheikh Sidi Munir on behalf of the movement, the event is part of a global demonstration held on the last Friday of Ramadan to express solidarity with the people of Palestine against what it describes as “77 years of continued brutality by the illegal state of Israel.”
The statement recalled that the tradition of observing Quds Day was instituted in 1980 by Imam Ayatollah Khomeini, leader of the Islamic Revolution, to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people.
“Muslims and non-Muslims with humanity at heart are being invited to show solidarity with the innocent and oppressed people of Palestine,” the statement read.
The Islamic movement emphasised that Quds Day processions and activities are held worldwide, including in Britain, France, the United States, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Canada, and numerous countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the group condemned Israel’s military actions, particularly since October 7, 2023. “From that date to now, Israel has dropped over 100,000 bombs, killing at least 50,000 Palestinians and leaving more than 90,000 innocent people, mostly children, injured,” the statement said.
It further stated that nearly 90 percent of homes in Gaza have been either partially or completely destroyed, with places of worship, markets, hospitals, and schools targeted in the bombardment.
“We have seen video footage of young people crying out from gruesome torture, little children sitting in pools of blood and debris, and fathers carrying their emaciated and lifeless kids,” the statement added, calling for an end to the ongoing violence.
The movement urged the public to rise against Israeli “terror attacks” on Palestinians, stating that the siege, indiscriminate bombing, and destruction of vital infrastructure continue unabated.
“In the context of the ongoing massacre, every reasonable and humane person should rise against the Israeli terror attacks on the ever-persecuted Palestinians,” it stated.
The group called on all concerned individuals and human rights activists to participate in the 2025 Quds Day Procession to voice their support for Palestine.
The march is expected to take place in major Nigerian cities, with the primary gathering in Abuja.
