Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called for a more concerted and multi-faceted approach to addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, insurgency, and communal unrest.

He made the call while declaring open the 2025 Combat Arms Training Week of the Nigerian Army at Obienu Barracks in Bauchi. Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, the Governor emphasized the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, stressing that security in the 21st century demands a multidimensional response.

“The nature of security challenges confronting our nation today has become increasingly complex and dynamic,” he said. “In line with global best practices, continuous training remains the lifeline of any professional army.”

Governor Bala commended the Nigerian Army for deploying troops in nearly all states of the federation to support civil authorities. He described the Combat Arms Training Week as a vital platform to enhance collaboration, assess combat readiness, and refine tactical and strategic approaches by the Infantry and Armoured Corps.

“The Combat Arms Training Week epitomizes the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to sharpen its sword and polish its shield,” he remarked. “Whenever called upon, you will respond with unmatched professionalism, precision, and patriotic fervor.”

He further praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of Nigeria’s armed forces.

Governor Bala acknowledged the Army’s significant role in curbing the threat of Boko Haram and other insurgent groups, saying, “I am particularly heartened by the ongoing repositioning of the Nigerian Army into a more agile, resilient, and professional force.”

He also lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, for instilling exemplary standards of professionalism within the military.

“Bauchi has been a direct beneficiary of the Nigerian Army’s courage, diligence, and commitment. The synergy between the Army and other security agencies has made Bauchi one of the most peaceful states in the country,” the Governor said.

He highlighted initiatives such as the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers Programme as proof of the Army's dedication to the welfare of its personnel.

“These investments in the wellbeing of our soldiers are not only noble but crucial to maintaining the high morale and loyalty the Nigerian Army is known for,” he added.

Governor Bala reaffirmed the unwavering support of the government and people of Bauchi State for the Nigerian Army, stating, “Bauchi — the Pearl of Tourism — recognizes your sacrifices, honors your courage, and stands firmly with you in the noble duty of securing our nation.”

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Oluyede, assured participants that the Combat Arms Training Week would help the Army consolidate its globally respected traditions of excellence and professionalism.
