President Bola Tinubu will depart for Paris, France, on Wednesday for a two-week working visit. According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit will focus on appraising his administration's mid-term performance and assessing key milestones.
Onanuga noted that during this period, the President will reflect on the progress of ongoing reforms and engage in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary. The retreat will serve as a platform for reviewing national development priorities for the upcoming year.
“This period of reflection will inform plans to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year,” the statement read. It further highlighted the recent economic strides made by the administration, including a notable increase in the Central Bank of Nigeria's net foreign exchange reserves, which surged to $23.11 billion, up from $3.99 billion in 2023.
While in France, President Tinubu will remain in constant communication with his team and continue overseeing governance activities. He is expected to return to Nigeria in about a fortnight.
Meanwhile, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, where he will represent President Tinubu at the 65th Independence Day celebrations on April 4. Senegal marks its independence from French colonial rule on this day, and the celebrations are expected to feature national pride, parades, and cultural events.
In a statement, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, revealed that Shettima’s attendance was in response to an invitation from Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. This invitation is a reflection of the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Senegal.
The celebrations will be held at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, where President Faye will host Vice President Shettima and other distinguished guests from across Africa and beyond. Shettima is scheduled to return to Nigeria after the one-day event.
