Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), received a significant boost on Thursday following the defection of three members of the House of Representatives from opposition parties.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, formally announced the defections during plenary, reading letters from the lawmakers who have pledged their allegiance to the APC.

The defectors include two lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP): Hon. Kabiru Usman (Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency) and Hon. Abdullahi Sani (Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency), both from Kano State. In their separate letters, they cited unresolved internal crises and leadership struggles within the NNPP as reasons for their exit.

Also defecting was Hon. Oluwole Oke, a long-serving lawmaker representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State. He announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.

The defections were underscored by the presence of the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who was in the House chamber during the session to express solidarity with the new members of the party.

With these latest defections, the APC has further strengthened its majority in the Green Chamber, consolidating its influence ahead of key legislative decisions and potential political realignments.
