The Niger State Government has distanced itself from a list circulating on social media purportedly naming individuals sponsored by the state for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim, clarified that the state government is not responsible for the list, emphasizing that official government policies and programmes — including those related to Hajj sponsorship — are developed and executed through formal, verifiable channels.
He accused certain social media users of deliberately attempting to discredit the government by spreading false, misleading, and unverified information, despite ongoing efforts to build a "New Niger."
Bologi urged the public to always verify the authenticity of information from credible sources before sharing or acting on it.
He explained that the state government's Hajj sponsorship policy is targeted at supporting essential personnel, such as health workers, Pilgrims Welfare Board officials, and other key stakeholders, to ensure the provision of medical services and the smooth coordination of Hajj operations.
He reiterated that any government initiative regarding pilgrim sponsorship is communicated through official platforms.
Bologi therefore urged the public and social media users to disregard the list currently in circulation, warning that it does not reflect the position or actions of the Niger State Government.
