— Pledges to Strengthen Bauchi Fire Service Operations

— Establishes 10 New Fire Sub-Stations

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced the establishment of 10 additional fire sub-stations across the three senatorial districts of the state as part of efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the State Fire Service.

The governor made this known during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual National Conference of Fire Service Chiefs and Directors held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Bauchi.

Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Governor Mohammed stated that his administration had already strengthened fire safety regulations through the enactment and enforcement of laws aimed at promoting fire safety standards in public spaces.

He added that the government has also created an enabling environment for advanced training, repair of firefighting trucks, recruitment of personnel, and the renovation of the recreation room at the State Fire Service Directorate Headquarters to meet global standards—ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.

"The need to prevent and combat fire outbreaks and other emergencies requiring the intervention of firefighters cannot be overemphasized. Therefore, we must continue to build the capacity of our fire service personnel and boost their morale," the governor said.

"I am also pleased to inform you that our administration has increased the allowances of Fire Service personnel to motivate and encourage them to perform their duties with greater diligence."

Governor Mohammed called on participants at the conference to transfer the knowledge acquired during the sessions to their subordinates upon returning to their respective duty posts.

He urged attendees to leverage the conference as a platform to improve their professional proficiency and collectively work towards a fire-safe Nigeria by preventing fire outbreaks, protecting lives, and promoting a culture of fire safety awareness.

Also speaking at the event, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hon. Hajara Yakubu Wanka, commended the state government for hosting the conference. She emphasized the need for synergy and collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes.

On her part, the Chairperson of the Association of States Fire Service Chiefs and Directors, Mrs. Margaret A. Adeseye, noted that the annual national conference was designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of fire service operatives at both the federal and state levels through shared experiences and knowledge exchange.
