A Civil Defence officer stationed at the Yola Hajj camp, Abubakar Abdulkadir Mayos, has returned a missing Basic Travel Allowance (BTA) belonging to a female pilgrim from Taraba State.
The money—comprising $505 and 30 Saudi Riyals—was found and returned to the rightful owner, Maimuna Salihu, on the morning of Saturday, May 17.
The handover was conducted in the presence of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) liaison officer, the Director of Planning from the Taraba State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, and other officials.
According to reports, Officer Mayos discovered the missing cash and immediately reported it to the appropriate authorities. He ensured the funds were securely kept until ownership was verified and the money returned.
Pilgrims and officials at the camp praised Officer Mayos for his integrity and honesty, describing the act as exemplary and a positive reflection of the values guiding the Hajj pilgrimage.
“Alhamdulillah, the pilgrim has been reunited with her full BTA,” a camp official confirmed, adding that the gesture has inspired confidence in the security and ethical standards maintained during Hajj operations.
