The President of the Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria, Dr. Awwal Aliyu Abdullahi, has commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for his notable contributions to the effectiveness and welfare of the Nigerian Army.
The movement, an amalgamation of 598 registered grassroots associations across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), praised General Oluyede’s leadership since assuming office.
“In just a few months, General Oluyede came in with a clear vision to enhance the Army's security capacity, infrastructure, training, equipment, and administration,” Dr. Awwal stated.
He highlighted several achievements of the COAS, including the completion and commissioning of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics (NACOL), the renovation of soldiers’ accommodations in Division Jos, and the commissioning of 23 SER Headquarters in Jos.
In Lagos, General Oluyede renovated and commissioned soldiers’ accommodations and Brigade Commanders’ residences at Ikeja Cantonment, which he also renamed TA Lagbaja Cantonment. He further held stakeholders’ engagements in Bokkos, Plateau State, aimed at curbing insecurity in the region.
Among other accomplishments, the COAS commissioned Intelligence Personnel CBQ Accommodation at Mambilla Barracks, Abuja; passed out over 6,000 recruits of the 87 Regular Recruit Intake (87RRI); and implemented Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) interventions across the country.
He also approved infrastructure development across Nigerian Army formations and barracks, commissioned TAL House and the Regimental Sergeant Major’s residence at 4 SF Command, Doma, and visited troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and Operation Python Dance (OPFD) to boost their morale.
According to Dr. Awwal, General Oluyede has introduced various welfare initiatives, including the increment of soldiers’ Ration Cash Allowance (RCA), renovation and construction of schools, and the deployment of modern equipment to military units.
The Army Chief has also facilitated both local and foreign medical treatments for personnel and sponsored training programs at home and abroad for officers and soldiers. Furthermore, he has strengthened collaborations with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to develop a more holistic approach to national security.
In partnership with state governments, General Oluyede has also worked to improve the welfare of displaced persons and vulnerable populations.
Dr. Awwal noted that under General Oluyede’s leadership, the Nigerian Army has witnessed remarkable development, a shift in behavior and tactics, and heightened effectiveness in tackling insecurity. This, he said, has boosted troop morale and strengthened patriotism, discipline, and national unity.
He concluded by applauding the COAS for his dedication and urged citizens to continue supporting the Army and the Armed Forces in their efforts to secure the nation.
