The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed grave concern over what it described as open threats and inciting remarks by a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such actions could endanger peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party condemned recent comments made by the PDP Women Leader, Hajiya Rabi Madawaki, during a gathering in Gusau held on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The APC quoted Madawaki as saying in Hausa, “zamu ci ubanshi, zamu yi mashi duka”—translated to mean, “Anyone who does not vote for Dauda, we will maim, beat, kill him.” The party alleged that the comments, made in the presence of the governor’s wife, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda, amount to a clear threat against voters.
According to the APC, “Threats to life and intimidation are the exact things Nigerians are trying to remove from the political scene, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu taking the lead in fostering democratic ideals ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
The party said it views the PDP Women Leader’s statements as not only reckless but indicative of a broader pattern of intimidation and lawlessness within the ruling party in the state.
It further recalled its earlier allegations against the Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration, accusing it of complicity in banditry and of failing to assist or even sympathize with victims of incessant attacks in the state.
“As we approach another election season, the utterances by Hajiya Rabi Madawaki are not only savage but dangerous,” the statement added. “This came from a PDP leader who holds no official capacity in the government. If she can openly make such threats, what then could be the governor and his associates planning against the Zamfara electorate?”
The APC also urged security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), to immediately arrest Madawaki, arguing that her statements constitute a criminal threat and she is not protected by any form of immunity.
“We call on the security agencies to take action before these threats escalate into violence,” the party stated. “The APC, as a strong opposition party in the state, will not be intimidated. The will of the people must prevail.”
The statement concluded by reminding security operatives of past incidents involving armed PDP thugs and the state government’s “non-apologetic posture” in the face of bandit attacks, asserting that these patterns and the current development should be taken seriously.
