The Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a stern warning against traffic violators, particularly anyone caught driving against traffic and running red lights, declaring that erring drivers will not only have their vehicles impounded, but made to face immediate legal actions.
This is as the FCT Transportation Secretariat raised concerns over the alarming trend of motorists disregarding basic traffic rules, stressing that such action contravenes the FCT Road Transport Regulations
Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, Abdulateef Bello, who raised the alarm in a statement, declared that, “Henceforth, anyone caught in violation of these traffic offences will have their vehicles impounded and be arraigned before a Mobile Court for prosecution and penalty administration.”
The statement issued on Thursday reads, “The FCT transportation Secretariat has observed with concerns the rate at which motorists drive against traffic and red light violation in the Federal Capital City and Territory.”
Bello emphasized that the offences carry specific penalties as outlined in the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023.
“We wish to bring to your notice that riving against traffic and beating the red light are traffic offences that attract fines as stipulated in the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023: Regulation 18, No 172 – 173,” he stated.
While reiterating its commitment to ensuring order and safety on the roads, the Administration cautioned all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules.
“The motoring public is hereby warned.”
