Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging to double the votes secured by the President in the 2023 general elections during the 2027 polls.
“Kebbi State remains an APC stronghold. The votes we gave to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023 will be doubled in 2027,” the governor declared during an emergency meeting with political stakeholders held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
The meeting was convened in response to social media reports alleging that Governor Idris and four other governors were planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to another party.
Describing the rumours as baseless and politically motivated, the governor said they were aimed at distracting him from delivering good governance.
“This emergency meeting is necessitated by unfounded speculations spread by people who do not believe in God. We thank the Almighty for guiding us through. Everyone who spoke today affirmed that Kaura is not deceitful, not a liar, but a man of integrity who keeps his promises and gives freely,” Idris stated.
He added: “I have a close relationship with Mr. President, and that is what bothers them. Those pointing fingers at five governors, including me, know that we enjoy the President’s trust. But if they think this will deter me from working for Kebbi’s development, they are mistaken. I remain committed to our progress.”
Also speaking, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, said the meeting was convened to debunk the defection rumours.
“We are here to dismiss the rumours and reaffirm our collective commitment to the re-election of Governor Nasir Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he said. “This gathering allows stakeholders to freely express their views and make our stand known.”
Kana-Zuru also urged supporters of the governor to stand by him sincerely and avoid hypocritical conduct.
In his remarks, Hon. Bello Ka’oje, member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, said the rumours were attempts to sow discord between the governor and the president.
“Their statements stem from envy. This is a calculated attempt to undermine the achievements of this administration under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris,” he said, calling on those behind such narratives to desist from further acts of sabotage.
Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman-Zuru, speaking on behalf of the legislature, praised the governor’s achievements.
“For your name to be known across the country is a sign of success. We thank God for your leadership,” he said.
The House also passed a motion supporting the re-election of both Governor Idris and President Tinubu for a second term.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari, speaking on behalf of the State Executive Council, assured the governor of their full loyalty and commitment.
In similar remarks, the Executive Chairman of Kebbi Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Faruk Musa Yaro-Enabo, and the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kebbi State, Alhaji Dahiru Nayaya-Ambursa, expressed their unwavering support for the governor’s and president’s second-term bids.
Nayaya-Ambursa stated that all 21 local government chairmen and 225 ward leaders in the state stood firmly behind the administration.
