The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has called on Bala Mohammed led-administration to offer permanent appointments to dedicated casual staff working in various state-owned media organisations as reward their efforts.
The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Umar Sa'id made the call during a courtesy visit by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Usman Shehu Usman, to the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi.
Saidd emphasised the significant contributions of many casual staff who have consistently delivered quality service across media outlets in the state.
He said their commitment and performance warrant recognition through integration into the state civil service.
"These individuals have shown exceptional dedication in their assigned roles. Granting them permanent appointments would not only reward their efforts but also motivate them to do more while encouraging others to commit to the system," he said.
The NUJ Chairman also urged the state government to expedite the ongoing digital switchover process at the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV), to align with modern global broadcasting standards.
While commending the commissioner's efforts to foster unity and cooperation among media organizations, Comrade Umar Sa’id reaffirmed the union's readiness to support the ministry’s initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s information sector.
For his part, Commissioner Hon. Usman Shehu Usman said the visit was part of his familiarisation tour to strengthen collaboration between the ministry and the NUJ.
He expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the ministry and the union and pledged continued support for journalists in the state in the discharge of their duties.
