The Nigeria Red Cross, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has assisted 7,300 families in Gusau, Shinkafi, and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
During the distribution of aid in Gusau on Monday, Abubakar Kyande, Secretary General of the Nigeria Red Cross, stated that the intervention aimed to alleviate the challenges faced by vulnerable communities in the areas of education, health, and hunger.
Kyande explained that each beneficiary received between N28,000 and N114,000, depending on the size and needs of their family.
The intervention primarily targeted the most vulnerable groups, including female-headed households, households with disabilities, and vulnerable children. "We worked closely with community and religious leaders, as well as local government authorities, to select the beneficiaries," Kyande said.
"We are concerned about the hardships resulting from insecurity and other socio-economic challenges in the state. We are calling on the government, non-governmental organizations, and philanthropists to partner with us in assisting vulnerable families in the state," he added.
"For now, we are reaching only three area councils, but we are extending our hands of friendship to all stakeholders in a bid to assist vulnerable children," Kyande concluded.
