Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their resolve to resist what they described as intimidation and exclusion tactics by the Federal Government, vowing to remain committed to democratic principles and good governance.

The bold stance was made during the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the party has been operating under mounting pressure and political manipulation allegedly orchestrated by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The current administration has created a unique set of challenges marked by subtle provocations, obstacles, and shifting political dynamics,” Mohammed said. “Despite these pressures, our members remain steadfast and unwavering. There is no form of intimidation or persuasion that we, as elected governors and members, have not encountered. Yet, we remain resolute in our commitment.”

Governor Mohammed noted that while the PDP has experienced defections and coalition talks, the party’s core strength lies in its internal unity and resilience—qualities he said are absent in other parties.

“Other parties are fragmented, riddled with factions. But the PDP stands united. Our internal cohesion is our strength and a testament to our readiness to offer alternative leadership,” he stated.

He also emphasised the proactive efforts by PDP governors to stay politically visible and address pressing national issues, citing recent meetings and communiqués issued in Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi States.

“These engagements are not just symbolic. They demonstrate that we are actively working to uphold good governance, maintain our relevance, and stand by the Nigerian people,” he said.

Mohammed praised the patience, discipline, and dedication of PDP leaders and members, describing the 99th NEC meeting as a reaffirmation of the party’s democratic values.

“This gathering is more than a routine political event—it is a triumph of democracy and good governance over adversity,” he concluded.

The PDP’s latest declaration signals heightened political tension as the opposition party positions itself as a resilient force amid what it calls systemic attempts at suppression.
