The political landscape in Kebbi State witnessed a major realignment on Wednesday as the former Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Lawal Mohammed Jidolo, alongside Sale Gambo and thousands of their supporters, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zuru.

The defectors were warmly received by the Kebbi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, who welcomed them into the ruling party and assured them of equal rights, recognition, and active participation.

While presenting the new members to Governor Nasir Idris, Kana-Zuru described the defection as a "wise and strategic decision," urging the returnees to work closely with existing members to strengthen the APC at all levels across the state.

"You have made a good and timely decision. The APC is open to all, and we assure you of full integration and collaboration for the progress of our party and the state," Kana-Zuru stated.

In his remarks, Hon. Lawal Mohammed Jidolo said the decision to join the APC was motivated by the remarkable achievements of Governor Nasir Idris’s administration and the desire to contribute to the ongoing transformation in Kebbi State.

“We have defected to the APC to support the mission and vision of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, in taking Kebbi to greater heights,” Jidolo said.

“Our defection is a democratic step towards progress. I urge all well-meaning citizens who truly love this state to come forward and join the people’s governor to build a stronger Kebbi.”

He further commended the Governor’s leadership over the past two years, stating that the administration’s developmental strides are evident not only in Zuru Emirate but throughout the state.

Calling for unity among party members, Jidolo appealed to APC stakeholders within Zuru Emirate to embrace the new entrants as “brothers and sisters in progress.”

“Building a giant Kebbi of our dreams requires collective effort. Together, let us rally around Governor Nasir Idris and support him to deliver more dividends of democracy to our people,” he concluded.

The defection is seen as a significant boost for the APC ahead of upcoming political contests, further consolidating the party’s dominance in the state.
