The Presidency has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the removal of Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), describing the claims as false and misleading.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, clarified that there has been no change in Akume’s status.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement read.
Onanuga noted that President Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments regarding the position of SGF, and attributed the rumour to what he described as "agents of mischief."
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” he added.
The Presidency urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, affirming that official government appointments will be communicated through authorized channels.
Senator Akume, a former governor of Benue State and seasoned politician, was appointed SGF by President Tinubu in 2023.
