Residents of Kaffin Koro in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State have raised the alarm over the deteriorating condition of the community’s General Hospital, calling on the Niger State Commissioner for Health to take urgent action.
In a heartfelt appeal made public this week, concerned citizens described the state of the hospital as dire and life-threatening. They lamented that the facility is plagued by decaying infrastructure and a severe lack of critical medical equipment, which has already resulted in avoidable loss of lives.
According to the residents, the hospital currently lacks basic security due to the absence of a perimeter fence. Inadequate and unstable lighting has severely affected medical procedures, particularly surgeries, while the absence of essential equipment such as oxygen and suctioning machines continues to endanger patients.
"The situation is unacceptable," the community stated, "and immediate intervention is needed to save lives and restore confidence in our public health system."
The citizens are calling on the Ministry of Health to urgently assess the condition of the hospital, provide the necessary medical equipment, improve infrastructure, and ensure adequate staffing and funding. They stressed that timely government action would not only improve healthcare delivery but also reaffirm the administration’s commitment to the welfare of rural communities.
"We believe that with the right support, Kaffin Koro General Hospital can be revived to deliver the quality healthcare our people deserve," they concluded, urging the Commissioner to act without delay.
