Nigeria, Apartheid-and-Genocide Israel Pledge Tighter Security Ties Amid Global Turmoil

Nigeria’s government has reaffirmed security and intelligence cooperation with Israel — a state widely condemned for its ongoing apartheid policies and genocidal war on Palestinians in Gaza — despite mounting global outrage over Tel Aviv’s actions.

The renewed pledge came in a joint communiqué signed on Monday by Nigeria’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharren Haskel-Harpaz, following a high-level political meeting.

While the statement painted the talks as a “strategic partnership,” it placed strong emphasis on expanding collaboration in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing — especially on terror financing — and advanced security training.

Both sides claimed that insecurity and terrorism were global challenges requiring unified international action, and committed to deeper cooperation on multilateral platforms where they share political and economic interests.

The discussions also stretched beyond security to cover border technology, capacity building, tourism and cultural exchange, agriculture, and immigration services.

In a bid to institutionalise the alliance, Nigeria and Israel agreed on exchange programmes, study tours, and a reinforced bilateral framework for sustained engagement.

The deal comes as Israel continues to face accusations at the International Court of Justice of committing genocide in Gaza — a reality that casts a long shadow over Nigeria’s decision to strengthen military and intelligence ties with Tel Aviv.
