The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has suspended its Secretary-General, Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, over alleged misconduct and breach of trust.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) presided over by the Deputy National President (Administration), Muhammad Abubakar Bishara, in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Thursday, RTEAN said the NEC reviewed reports on Adeniyi’s conduct and found that his actions contravened the association’s constitutional provisions.
“After reviewing available reports, the Council resolved that Mr. Adeniyi’s actions constituted misconduct and a breach of trust,” the statement read. “In line with the association’s constitution, and in the interest of preserving credibility and unity, the NEC unanimously resolved to suspend him with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a thorough investigation.”
To probe the allegations, the NEC set up a seven-member investigative committee chaired by Barrister Samuel Agbede, with Hon. Adamu Zubairu Jalaluddeen as secretary. Other members include Adamu Bulama, Alhaji Salman Ayoku, Chief Ifie Orabor, and Alhaji Musa Zuba.
Bishara said the committee’s mandate is to investigate all allegations, hear from all parties involved, and submit a written report of findings and recommendations to the NEC within two months. The committee is also empowered to request documents, summon witnesses, and undertake all lawful actions necessary for its work.
Pending the conclusion of the investigation, the Deputy Secretary-General, Henry Ugwu, will serve as Acting Secretary-General of the association.
