Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has led a high-powered delegation to the 2025 Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar, Senegal, where he held strategic discussions with the Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), Mr. Hailemariam Dessalegn.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the summit, focused on building a strong partnership aimed at accelerating agricultural transformation in Jigawa State. Discussions centered on practical strategies to boost agricultural productivity, improve market access, and enhance the competitiveness of rice and wheat farmers in the state. Other key areas included aligning policies and institutional frameworks to promote sustainable growth, strengthening governance in the agricultural sector, and creating opportunities for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing among smallholder farmers.

Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging global partnerships to drive food security, modernize farming practices, and stimulate inclusive economic development. He emphasized that agriculture is a central pillar of his 12-Point Agenda, guided by the broader vision of building a Greater Jigawa. He noted that Jigawa already stands out as Nigeria’s top producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower, and pledged to build on this success by fully harnessing the state’s vast arable land and resilient farming communities.

The Africa Food Systems Summit 2025, which is being held in Dakar from September 1st to 4th, has brought together leaders and stakeholders from across the continent to discuss innovative solutions for strengthening food systems.

Governor Namadi was accompanied by key members of his cabinet and senior officials, including the Commissioners for Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Director-General of the Jigawa State Agricultural Transformation Agency, the Director-General of the Jigawa State Agricultural Research Institute, the Director-General of Invest Jigawa, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Intergovernmental Affairs.
