Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) "dead and buried," alleging that the opposition party is now being controlled by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) operating from the Presidential Villa.
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remarks during an appearance on Arise Television's Prime Time programme on Monday night.
“Apart from our Lord Jesus Christ, no dead can rise again, and I want to tell you that whatever you are seeing is make-shift — the dead is dead. We can only advertise the obituary,” Melaye said.
The former lawmaker accused the PDP of being compromised, claiming the party has been sold out to interests loyal to the ruling APC.
“Dead and buried — PDP was sold, and I’m not even sure if they got the receipt of payment. What you have now is an APC-controlled PDP,” he alleged.
“It’s a party that is being controlled from the Villa. It’s the agents of the APC that control the PDP.”
Melaye’s comments come amid ongoing internal crises and public criticism within the PDP over its role as the main opposition party following the 2023 general elections.
The PDP is yet to officially respond to Melaye’s latest claims.
