The First Lady of Zamfara State, Her Excellency Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has commemorated the 2025 International Day of Charity with a humanitarian outreach targeting the elderly and less privileged in the state.

The event, held in Gusau under the theme “Speeding Global Generosity and Strengthening Community Support”, was organised by the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative in collaboration with the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum.

According to a statement signed by Rabi Yusuf, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, the outreach featured the distribution of food items, including bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, sugar, vegetable oil, and cash donations, aimed at alleviating hardship among vulnerable groups.

Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar (popularly known as Hadiza Mai H), Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation, said:

“Charity is more than giving — it is about restoring dignity, strengthening community ties, and showing that no one is forgotten. In a world full of challenges, our generosity must move faster to reach those who need it most.”

Hajiya Huriyya reaffirmed her commitment to supporting marginalised communities through sustained and impactful initiatives, emphasising that true charity must be rooted in empathy, compassion, and consistency.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and life-saving.

The First Lady also commended the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum for its ongoing efforts to strengthen humanitarian services across the region, highlighting the power of collaboration in tackling poverty and social exclusion.

The International Day of Charity, observed annually on September 5, promotes global philanthropy and community solidarity. This year’s initiative in Zamfara underscores the belief that compassion, when backed by action, can transform lives and foster stronger, more inclusive communities.
