The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, have commended Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, for his steadfast efforts in tackling the menace of armed banditry in the state.

The commendation was made during the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council held on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi, where both leaders described Governor Idris’s approach to security as exemplary and worthy of emulation by other political leaders across the country.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, General Musa and the Sultan hailed the governor’s courage and resilience, saying his commitment to restoring peace and stability has set a new standard in public leadership. They urged him to disregard social media falsehoods and remain focused on the task of securing lives and property.

Governor Idris has provided over 100 Hilux vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles to security agencies in Kebbi State, alongside regular financial and logistical support, to enhance their operations in combating banditry. The Sultan attributed the successes recorded so far to the collaboration between the state government, the Defence Headquarters, and past leaders of Kebbi State who continue to support the current administration.

General Musa decried the politicisation of security matters, describing it as a major obstacle in the fight against insecurity. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to democratic governance and warned that the military would deal decisively with any individual or group attempting to undermine democracy in the country.

In his remarks, Governor Idris reiterated his confidence in Nigeria’s security agencies and dismissed claims of hiring a private security consultant. He expressed appreciation to the Defence Headquarters and the Nigeria Police Force for their continued support, pledging to do whatever it takes to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Kebbi State.

The recognition from both the Defence Headquarters and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council further strengthens Governor Idris’s reputation for decisive leadership. It will be recalled that the Progressive Governors’ Forum recently commended him for his strides in infrastructure and his proactive measures against banditry across the state.
